Joshua Brown graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Business.
From Atlanta, Georgia, the decision to become a teacher was very much influenced by his AP World and U.S. History Teacher, Mr. Maple – who always motivated Joshua to be prepared and punctual throughout his time as a high school student in Atlanta. Joshua hopes to instill this same motivation to his students during his residency year and beyond.
Prior to joining Dallas Teacher Residency, Joshua served as an AmeriCorps Member with City Year Tulsa – where he tutored and mentored middle school students in math and English. While this experience certainly exposed Joshua to urban schools, he hopes to improve his classroom management strategies during his residency year.
During the 2016-2017 school year, Joshua will be completing his residency training at Trini Garza Early College High School, under the guidance of his mentor teacher, Leslie Gomez. Joshua is confident that this year will set him up for success to teach High School English the following year – in a classroom of his own.
In his free time Joshua enjoys playing basketball, movies and reading books by his favorite author – Walter D. Meyers.
