Alexa Locke graduated from Texas A&M University – Commerce, with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies.
A native Texan (from Garland, TX), the decision to become a teacher was very much influenced by her own love for children and the “joy she gets out of witnessing students learn!” Her 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Rolemond is credited for instilling such a thrill in learning in her at such a young age.
Prior to joining Dallas Teacher Residency, Alexa worked for Readers 2 Leaders, a Dallas area non-profit organization that focuses on building the literacy capacity of low-income students in elementary grades. While this prior experience provided Alexa with exposure to students and schools located in underserved communities – Alexa hopes the residency year will help develop her time management skills (while juggling the clinical internship and graduate coursework).
During the 2016-2017 school year, Alexa will be completing her residency training at Ben Milam Elementary School, under the guidance of her mentor teacher, Ms. Reynolds. She is most eager to spend this training year developing as a teacher and learning.
In her free time, Alexa enjoys cooking, shopping – and cannot imagine a career in anything but teaching!
