Thank you for your interest in applying to become a Dallas Teacher Residency program resident. Prior to applying, please take a moment to review the minimum program eligibility requirements, to ensure that you are eligible to go through the full application process.
Each year, our Executive Leadership is highly involved in the recruitment and selection of a diverse, highly talented, and ambitious cohort of teacher residents. Throughout the application process, applicants should expect to interact directly with DTR Co-Founders and Executive Leadership. This hands-on approach taken by Executive Leadership during the recruitment process is emblematic of the DTR culture and is also evident throughout other aspects of the teacher residency program.
The first step in the application process is to complete the program resident questionnaire, found in the apply now portion of the website. Once completed and submitted, interested program residents will receive an email at the email address provided, outlining in detail the steps involved in navigating through the application process. Please note that all applicants will apply to Dallas Teacher Residency before applying to the graduate school at Texas A&M University – Commerce. The basic steps included in the application process are below:
STEP 1: Complete Program Resident Questionnaire
STEP 2: Initial Phone Screen
STEP 3: Complete Full DTR Application (sent to candidates directly by DTR staff)
STEP 4: Video Interview/In-Person Interview
STEP 5: Candidate Performance Task
STEP 6: Selected candidates are invited to begin the application process to Texas A&M University – Commerce
STEP 7: Following the group interview, selected candidates are notified of their acceptance(s)
STEP 8: If accepted, ALL individuals are encouraged to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA Form), regardless of whether or not they intend to utilize aid. This step should be completed very shortly after acceptance into Dallas Teacher Residency.
Interested candidates are also encouraged to register and take the Texas Education Agency Pre-Admissions Content Test (PACT), as early as possible. Additional information regarding the Texas teacher licensure exam can be found here. Please note that successfully passing the PACT exam is a requirement to begin graduate coursework at Texas A&M University – Commerce in July for the start of summer courses. More information regarding how to report scores to Texas A&M University – Commerce will be provided by Dallas Teacher Residency staff throughout the application process. While candidates can receive conditional admissions into Dallas Teacher Residency prior to taking their entrance exam, ALL accepted candidates will need to take and pass the PACT exam before September. Please note, that all graduate school applications are coordinated through Texas A&M University – Commerce. At the appropriate time in the application process, Dallas Teacher Residency will guide applicants through the graduate application process and serve as a liaison between the applicant and the university throughout the process.
The early application deadline for the 2020-21 Cohort is October 31st, 2019. Applications received after this date will be considered on a rolling basis until May 1st, 2020.
Final admissions decisions will be made by Dallas Teacher Residency and Texas A&M University – Commerce.
