All students, regardless of zip-code deserve access to high quality classroom teachers. As the Co-Founder of Dallas Teacher Residency – we fully support other high quality teacher preparation programs coming to Dallas. With that said, we want to make it well known that Dallas ISD currently has an intentionally small, but, very high quality teacher residency program already in place. One that was not imported, but rather, developed here in Dallas specifically for Dallas ISD – collaboratively with educators, residency experts, local universities, and, Dallas ISD. In an article appearing in the Dallas Morning News last week, writer Robert Wilonsky, fails to highlight the successes achieved by our program – the only teacher residency program currently working inside Dallas ISD.
What makes residency programs unique – is their innate knowledge of the local districts they partner with and the team that is on the ground running the program. Not only has our organization successfully worked inside this district for the past 3 years, but our university partner, Texas A&M Commerce, has a long history of successfully working with this district as well.
Our program graduates have been hired by Dallas ISD and have achieved great success. In addition, our mentor teachers have expressed that their teaching practices have been enhanced, which their student achievement results support. It is likely that we will always play the role of the underdog in this city and we are OK with that – we guarantee however our results will continue to be top-notch.
