Today, on North Texas Giving Day, we are not asking for money.
Over the course of the past several weeks, and most certainly in the next 18 hours, you likely have, and will continue to receive a number of emails from wonderful organizations doing both commendable and important work, asking for financial support. We hope you consider supporting these organizations on this day of giving. We also hope that on this unique day of giving, you consider supporting Dallas Teacher Residency – but not by giving money – because we won’t be asking for financial support – rather, we are asking for your advocacy.
A little over 27 months ago, our organization was merely a dream on a blank piece of paper that addressed a critical need in our city. Since then, due to the unwavering support we have received from a number of individuals and organizations such as United Way GroundFloor, this dream has evolved from the idea stages, to words on paper forming what we like to think resembled a business plan, to an organization that is effectively serving 26 teachers and nearly 2,100 students across 5 campuses in the Dallas Independent School District this academic school year. To those that have helped make this possible, many thanks are in order.
This is simply the beginning of our growth as we have plans to scale our efforts to ensure that all students across DFW are provided with a highly effective classroom teacher. In order to achieve this growth financial support is certainly needed. However, today, in addition to thanking those that have been instrumental to our early success, ‘our ask’ is that you support our work by raising awareness on the matter of quality teacher preparation. Should you choose to also support us financially we will accept your contributions with much gratitude (click here).
Advocating for Dallas Teacher Residency can be achieved by:
2. Reaching out directly to schedule a visit to one of our partnering schools in order to see our resident and mentor teachers in action;
3. Connecting our organization with other individuals and organizations within the community that are committed to addressing issues of human capital and quality teacher preparation.
We look forward to continuing to share stories with you about our work, and more importantly about the work of our residents and program graduates. With your continued support, and advocacy, we very much look forward to truly transforming the way in which North Texas approaches urban teacher preparation.
Wishing you each a great North Texas Giving Day!
